Buxton Town Team, all together, better

Buxton Town Team is a community organisation made up of ordinary people who want to make our town a better place to live, work and visit.

Buxton Town Team welcome the establishment of a website to facilitate car sharing and lift sharing as a vital part of reducing car use and promoting sustainable travel within and beyond our town.  This is one of many objectives outlined in the Town Team’s Buxton on the Move Sustainable Travel Plan.

Sustainable travel

Buxton's Sustainable Travel Plan encompasses many aspects of travel in the town including walking, cycling, car parking, school travel, goods deliveries and public transport. One of the main themes is encouraging people to leave their cars at home by supporting an initiative to develop a Walk & Ride Network of safe and pleasant routes for walkers, cyclists and in some cases horse riders. The aim is to link residential areas with schools, places of work, the town centre and shops—as well as existing cycle trails and footpath networks. This project is one of several initiatives led their Sustainable Travel Group. The latest addition is Buses & Boots, which aims to map out a series of walks starting from local railway stations and bus stops.

In developing its Whole Town Sustainable Travel Plan, Buxton Town Team has amassed considerable data from surveying residents, visitors, local businesses and train passengers giving them a sound understanding of local travel patterns. In the implementation phase of the Buxton Moving Together project, the Town Team will share the anonymous results from these surveys to identify and target potential groups of service users.

Whilst welcoming the support of the particular private companies presently associated with this scheme, the Buxton Town Team does not specifically endorse their services. The Buxton Town Team has received financial support from Cenex to defray the costs of their promotion of the Buxton Moving Together Project.
